Everyone has values, right?
I believe that holding ourselves to our core values without compromise brings out the best in us. Every person has beliefs and values they hold themselves to as part of their integrity. Sharing these beliefs and values with you is an effort to be authentic to me as well as transparent to others. Communicating my intent also holds me accountable for any action that isn’t completed by me as a service provider.
Inspire my clients to become fans.
I’m not a rockstar but I want fans like rockstars. So how do I inspire my clients to become crazy loyal fans? I go “above and beyond” my customer’s expectations, anticipating their every need to facilitate fandom. I differentiate myself from the rest of the pack by conducting business in a customer-centric manner. And no matter what I do, there has to be an emotional impact on the receiver to warrant the effort. I’m not your average designer, my service isn’t average, and neither are my customers. I put thought into every interaction with my customers so as to inspire them to refer us to their customers and colleagues.
Build open and honest relationships with strong communication.
Open and honest communication is the best way to build trust and faith in a business relationship. I communicate this value in all of my business relationships; employer, partners, and vendors.
Conducting business with integrity, transparency, and accountability builds the best foundation for relationships. I also believe it’s important to be compassionate, friendly, and to make sure that you always do the right thing to treat your relationships well. I know it’s difficult to build trust in a business relationship, but you can accomplish so much more when you have trust and faith in each other.
Open honest communication is the best foundation for any relationship. I strive to be good listeners, but being good communicators is important as well. (After all, it is what I do.) At the end of the day, what matters most to me is that you were treated professionally with honesty, compassion, and integrity.
Do more with less.
I have always been about being able to do more with less. I work hard and play hard.
I believe in always improving my work, whether in tiny steps or large leaps, which means my work is never done. There is always room for improvement, especially with our failures, but I use these mistakes as learning opportunities and move on. I am continuously innovating to create a better experience for my customers and to stay a step ahead of the competition. I will never strive for better, exceed our expectations and reach great if we settle for “good enough”.
Be passionate and determined, be humble and authentic.
I value passion, determination, perseverance, humility, authenticity, and sense of urgency. I believe in what we are doing and where we are going. I have a “can do” attitude that takes us where others fear to tread. I believe in positive, but realistic attitudes, about everything I do because I realize that this inspires others to do the same.
I believe in respectful treatment of everyone, not matter your relationship to me. I treat everyone in the manner that I would want to be treated in the hopes that my character would speak for itself.
Have fun and “get your freak on” every once in a while.
I value having fun and “getting your freak on” every once in a while for it stimulates creativity and innovation. I don’t want to become corporate or boring, these qualities are not what defines a creative person. I want to be able to laugh at myself and my work.
This means I may process creativity differently than what you are used to with other types of designers. I want just enough “freakiness” to produce unique, creative solutions that engage your target audience and meet the business objective you’re trying to reach. “Freakiness” is a good element to have for it stimulates the creative process and helps me to think outside the box. Innovation is the result as well as having fun in the workplace.
Change the world for the better through philanthropy.
I believe in giving back to the community and leaving the world a better place. I decided to dedicate some of my philanthropy efforts to rid the world of canine cancer when Daisy Mae, my beagle, was diagnosed with kidney cancer in June 2010. She was only 8 1/2 years old. I also volunteer time through Zooniverse to their cancer and astronomy projects.
Always use eco-sustainability practices.
I am committed to protecting the environment and preserving natural resources throughout my design and production processes. I believe in using earth-friendly substrates, inks, and processes whenever possible to reduce our impact on the earth. Our choices not only affect us but also the animals we share our living space with and the environment we live in.
Be adventurous and open-minded.
I want to be adventurous, take risks, make mistakes, and learn from them. If you’re not making mistakes, then you’re not taking enough risk. I don’t want to be reckless, but I don’t want to be “sticks in the mud” either. Complacency prohibits growth, creativity, and new possibilities.
I approach challenges and situations with an open mind, always looking for the best solution wherever I may find it. My sense of adventure and creativity sometimes causes my solutions to be unconventional, but that’s what allows me to provide a better experience for my customers.
Inspire those around me to do the same.
The best method of teaching others is to be the best example to them. I hope my character speaks louder than words by the manner I treat our customers, partners, and vendors with respect, integrity, and compassion. I hope to inspire the people and organizations around me to do the same. “Pay it forward” isn’t just a saying to me, I live it every day.
